Lucknow: A two-day conference of the Principal Chief Operations Managers (PCOMs) of zonal railways began on Monday at the Indian Railways Institute of Transport Management (IRITM) in Lucknow. The inaugural ceremony was conducted by the Chief Guest, Dr. Manoj Singh, Member, Railway Board (Operations & Business Development).

Emphasis on adopting technology-based solutions
Dr. Manoj Singh emphasized adopting technology-based solutions to enhance operational efficiency, improve the utilization of infrastructure and rolling assets, strengthen freight operations, and improve the competitiveness and service quality of railways. The technical sessions began with a presentation by the Traffic Transportation Directorate, which provided information on key aspects and emerging trends in the field.
Discussion on future opportunities and prospects for transportation by rail
Following this, the Principal Chief Operations Managers of various zonal railways made presentations, sharing views on future opportunities and prospects for transportation by rail. These presentations also included experiences, perspectives, and innovative ideas related to further strengthening and improving the effectiveness of the rail transportation system. Dr. Manoj Singh and other senior officials also planted saplings on the IRITM campus. Through this initiative, the commitment to environmental sustainability and a green and eco-friendly railway system was underscored.
Important platform provided to senior railway officials
On the first day of the conference, senior railway officials were provided an important platform to share their experiences, deliberate on operational challenges, and exchange innovative ideas and strategies aimed at enhancing the efficiency, competitiveness, and effectiveness of rail transportation and freight operations. Senior Board officials, officials from Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and zonal railways, as well as faculty members of IRITM, were also present during the conference.
